I’ve summarized her points below, but she goes into much more detail within her article, so be sure to check it out here.
1- A multipurpose ‘welcome email’ strategy.
Fact is that new customers who receive welcome emails show 33 percent more long-term engagement with a brand and are much more likely to make a purchase!
- How about including a special welcome discount (most leading consumer-facing brands like Uber, Amazon do this), or a refer-a-friend campaign in it? Serves the objective of an increase in subscribers too.
2- Targeted email campaigns: as per a customer’s buying stage.
The best email marketing for eCommerce companies is when a marketer sends timely and relevant emails as per the actual stage of the buyer’s journey.
Name / gender personalization isn’t enough anymore. We need to be more in-tune with exactly where our prospects / customers are within the buying process and conform our emails around that..
3- Email marketing campaigns for customer retention.
- When a customer hasn’t bought anything for a (long) while, it’s time for a reactivation email campaign!
- When your data reveals they have been bouncing off your product pages frequently in the recent past, kick-in a customized offer, a free value-added service, a complimentary coupon to a spa! (Usable only if they buy something first of course). Or just give them more reasons to hit the Buy Now button instead of overthinking the purchase!
4- Email marketing campaigns that treat loyal customers as the privileged lot.
Loyal customers are most likely to respond to personalized emails – so make the emails count! Privilege offers, exclusive rights, first-user access to ‘latest products’ or early sale days – all are great ways to reward loyalty and to keep the long-term relationship going.
Paroma goes into much more detail on each of these points within her article, so be sure to check it out here.
