Love You Dad

Today was the 27th anniversary of my fathers passing (I was 9 at the time) and there have only been a handful of days that have passed where I haven’t thought of him.

He died of cirrhosis of the liver at just 34 years old, which is almost hard to do..

He was an extremely skilled carpenter, very soft hearted, but also had his demons, especially when it came to alcohol.

I’ve had a wide range of emotions over the years in regards to him and how he passed. That was a major life event for me and it’s definitely shaped the man and father that I’ve become today.

I’m now 2 years older than he was when he died and honestly it was a very weird feeling to realize that I’ve lived longer than he did.

While not here in person, he’s definitely been here in spirit motivating me along the way, from playing sports as a kid, graduating bootcamp, the birth of his grandson & granddaughter, and everything in between, in my mind, he’s seen it all along with me..

This was the last picture that was ever taken of him and the quality has faded over the years. (The bags under his eyes weren’t that bad..)

One of his favorite songs was Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the lyrics fit him to a tee..

I wish I had a chance to sit down with him for a few hours and discuss all the questions that are still in my head, but life just doesn’t work that way..

If your parents are still here consider yourself lucky and for gods sake if you haven’t spoken to them in a while, give them a call or pay them a visit. Someday you’ll wish you had just a few more hours to spend with them…

Love You Dad..
