If you’ve been ignoring the mobile revolution, chances are you’re about to pay a price.. That price is going to come via a huge drop in the search engines..
Nick Rojas recently published an article on Manta explaining “mobile-first indexing” and how we can assure our sites don’t tank this summer once Google starts to emphasize their mobile-first initiative. You can check it out by clicking here. He covers 7 key things we can do to make our sites as strong as possible from a mobile perspective.
There’s also a helpful article from Google here regarding best practices for mobile-first indexing, which is really helpful. It appears as of now that the biggest change will come for sites that are utilizing separate urls for their mobile and desktop versions or dynamic serving their content based on the users device.
Moving forward (and it’s really been the case for the last few years) our best bet will be responsive web design, which means our sites adjust according to screen size. That provides a great browsing experience for everyone regardless if they’re browsing on a smart phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, or even their smart TV!
